The first day of the two-day summit attempt was upon us. We headed up a ski lift to await the train at Bellevue. At the end of the line, we hiked up through rocks fields and snow patches until we reached a large gully called The Bowling Alley, appropriately named because climbers had to make about a 50 foot dash across the steep gully on a very narrow foot path without getting hit by the frequent rock falls. We made it through the gully just fine and ascended to the Gouter hut where we would spend the night.
